Who am I?

Where am I going?

What else is out there?

What am I really good at?

What do I want to do with my life?

How can I help others and learn about myself? I just need a break!

"Doing a gap year with Oxygen really helped me to learn about myself and discover what I wanted to do with my life.  It gave me the chance to learn new skills, consider my future and understand what is important to me."

So why do a GAP year?

It has been a tough few months and many people have been asking themselves some significant questions.  Now might be the time for you to invest in your future by investing your time to help others.

Many universities, employers and training providers see the value in young people taking a GAP year.  It shows that they have had some time out of mainstream education and have experience of the world that they cant get whilst at school. I gives you insight in different perspectives on both the world and yourself and an opportunity to reflect on your hopes and aspirations for the future.

Oxygen has had many young people undertake our GAP year or internship scheme who have not only, discovered what they want to do with their life and developed their skills, but benefited others in so many ways.

Costs

There is a cost of £750 to undertaking the GAP year to cover training, travel to projects, administration and support.  It increases if you need us to provide accommodation, food and living expenses.

However, we do not expect you raise all the money yourself and we do not want anyone to be prevented from undertaking the GAP year due to lack of finances.   Many people have been able to raise sponsorship from family and friends or can access grants from their church or local trusts.  Please talk to us if you have any questions or are unsure about any aspect of the scheme.

What we ask is:

  • That you to take a step of faith and be willing to learn

  • Start and finish dates can be flexible but we ask for a minimum commitment of 7 months.  You can start anytime from May half term onwards.

  • Be willing to give the best of your ability

  • be prepared to go the extra mile to benefit someone else.

Benefits
We provide a range of valuable training opportunities, development and career planning, coaching and the chance to work as part of a team.  We aim to have you complete a specific project and can tailor the GAP year to suit you.  We are keen to help you apply your skills and develop new ones.

We are particularly interested in people who have knowledge of or aspirations to learn about:
  • Video, film and visual communication
  • Social media
  • Selling online
  • Fashion and textiles
  • Up-cycling, salvage and ecology
  • Social justice
  • Outdoor activities
